Oh lord, folks, let me tell ya, the things they do with album covers these days—just downright shocking! Now, I ain’t no expert on music or fancy art, but even a simple ol’ gal like me can tell when somethin’ looks downright bad. A few days ago, I read somewhere that Rolling Stone, that big ol’ magazine, made a list of the “50 Worst Album Covers of All Time.” Can you believe it? I mean, I seen some ugly pictures in my time, but these album covers, well, they take the cake!
So, I thought I’d tell ya ’bout some of ’em. First up, they said that Limp Bizkit takes the top spot for having the worst album cover ever. Now, I ain’t heard much of their music, but their album cover looks like somethin’ a child drew with a crayon. It’s all messy and ugly, like they didn’t even try. Just makes you wonder what they were thinkin’ when they decided that was the one to put on their album. I reckon they shoulda thought twice before settlin’ on that one, don’t ya think?
Then there’s this one called “The Who”—now, I know folks who love The Who, but their album cover from the early Eighties ain’t lookin’ too good. Looks like they just took a picture of Pete Townshend in a hurry and threw it on the cover without any real thought. It ain’t the worst of ’em, but it sure ain’t no beauty either. If ya ask me, they coulda done better with all the money and fame they had. Guess sometimes, even the big stars get lazy.
And let me tell ya, there’s this one cover from a band called “The Shaggs.” Now, I don’t know what in the world these folks were thinkin’, but that cover looks like a bad family photo that someone decided to frame and sell. It’s just a plain ol’ picture of these young gals standin’ there all awkward, with no background, no style, and not a thing about it says, “Hey, come listen to my music.” It’s a real shame, I tell ya.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ all of ’em are bad, but some of these album covers just don’t do their music justice. The folks at Rolling Stone sure picked out some real doozies for their list of “worst” covers. I mean, they ain’t all terrible, but when you look at some of ’em, you gotta scratch your head and wonder what they were thinkin’ when they let those things out into the world.
So, if you ever find yourself wonderin’ why some of these bands put out covers like that, just know you ain’t the only one who’s confused. Maybe they thought it was cool back then, but to us regular folks, it just looks like a mess. I reckon some things are better off left in the past, like them ugly album covers.
One thing’s for sure though, folks—music might be good or bad, but the cover art? Well, that sure can leave a lasting impression, whether it’s good or downright ugly!
